A'RTHA
A'rtha is a Sanskrit term associated with the concept of material wealth. The Soviet traditions of canning, which at one time reached incredible proportions, were in the nature of an obligatory ritual of preparation for the harsh Russian winter. Every Soviet citizen ended the harvest season with a grandiose job of preserving everything that was collected at their summer cottage. This practice carried over to the new Russia. The fact that various animals are depicted in the jars of the project ironically shows how an urgent need can turn into a manic passion to preserve, marinate and immortalize.
