"Artha", banks, oil (paintings on the inner walls of cans), 2011
Artha - the Sanskrit term, associated with the concept of material well-being. Soviet tradition of canning, which at one time reached incredible proportions, had the character of a mandatory ritual preparation for the harsh Russian winter. Every Soviet citizen finished harvest season grand work on preservation of all that had been collected at their summer cottage. This practice has transpired in the new Russia. The fact that banks in the project shows different animals, ironically shows how a forced necessity can turn into a maniacal passion to preserve, pickle and perpetuate.
